Frequently Asked Questions
What's the purpose of The Sikh Course?
The Sikh Course has only one aim: to present the fundamental principles of the Sikh faith in a
FREE one-day course.
Why has the course been started?
There is a huge lack of knowledge amongst both the Sikh and non-Sikh communities about what the Sikh faith is actually all about. This course aims to spread the knowledge of the Sikh faith by sharing years of research in an easily
digestible format.
Why is it free?
It is not our aim to make any profits from this course. If anyone wishes to donate their services or funds, we would put such support to use by expanding The Sikh Course further.
What's the catch?
There is no catch whatsoever! We don't expect anything in return for the course.
Who is the course open to?
The course is open to absolutely everyone, no matter what background, religion, gender, qualifications, etc. However, the course is aimed at adults
and teenagers, as the material may not easily be absorbed by young children.
Will I be preached to?
Absolutely not. You will only be presented with facts about the Sikh faith. You are free to question the material that is presented.
Am I free to disagree with the course tutor?
Of course. We very much value debate and discussion. However, due to the short time in which the course is presented, lengthy debates will have to wait until after the scheduled session has ended.
Will I be the odd one out?
We're all a little odd! People from all backgrounds attend The Sikh Course.
Am I expected to speak in front of others during the course?
Not at all. You won't be put on the spot or asked questions. In fact, you can opt to remain completely silent throughout!
What level of knowledge is assumed of participants?
No knowledge of anything in particular is assumed. The course aims to provide both basic and advanced level tuition during the single day course.
How long does the course last?
The course starts at 10am and finishes at 6pm.
How is the course presented?
The course is presented in the style of a university lecture. There are no exercises, workshops or demonstrations.
Am I free to leave part-way through the course?
Absolutely. You are free to leave whenever you wish.
Do I gain any qualifications having completed the course?
We do not offer any formal qualifications, although we would like to think you'd be walking away from the course with a great deal more knowledge of the Sikh faith and it's principles.
Are there any exams at the end of the course?
No.
Do I need to bring anything to the course?
You may wish to bring some paper and a pen for note-taking, but you're not required to bring anything in particular.
At which locations are the courses held?
The courses are currently held throughout England. In the future, we hope to run courses in other countries too. Please contact us if you wish to help arrange courses in your locality.
Who runs this course?
The Sikh Course is run by The Foundation for Sikh Thought, which is a group of Sikhs who are passionate about the Sikh faith and it's principles.
